Sasha-Lee’s Life ‘Not In Danger’

13 May

I read this yesterday and it’s disturbing that some people have no life that they would actually harass this poor girl. What’s also impressive is that they got her phone number. Psycho flippen lunatics if you ask me!

Reports in an Afrikaans tabloid of telephonic threats made to Idols winner Sasha-Lee Davids and her family have been dismissed as “scandalous”.

The paper suggested Davids and her family were living in fear of their lives after disturbing phone calls made to her home in Atlantis, near Cape Town, since Friday’s announcement by M-Net, the producers of the reality show, that she was not the outright winner.

The announcement followed the controversy over late cellphone votes botched in the outcome of the talent show.

Davids was crowned the winner, but auditors on Friday found that runner-up Jason Hartman, of KwaZulu-Natal, had received 200 000 more votes.

Hartman received 1,3 million votes, compared with Davids’s 1,1 million. M-Net then decided to crown both Davids and Hartman as winners of this year’s show.

Mynie Grové, music producer and spokesperson for the Davids family, on Monday said the family had received no threats on their lives other than “a few ugly phone calls” from Hartman fans.

“It (the tabloid article) is scandalous. No one’s in any danger and the calls were not life-threatening,” Grové said.

She said the family were entitled to their privacy and the phone calls bordered on harassment.

Idols Judges Talk About Idols Farce

11 May

So even though it wa super KAK this year, they’re not scrapping Idols anytime soon.

Fremantle, the international company owning the rights to Idols, has given its full support to M-Net for declaring both Sasha-Lee Davids and Jason Hartman as the winners of this year’s season.

Fremantle admitted from Britain that this was the biggest Idols scandal yet. There had in the past been some problems with the SMS system in Britain and France, but it had never happened before that the final result was affected.

Theo Erasmus, the head of entertainment at M-Net, said their decision to announce Jason as an additional winner, even though he had beaten Sasha-Lee by more than 200 000 votes, was in the interest of fairness towards Sasha-Lee.

FINALLY Mara, my absolute favourite [like here] had something good / intellectual to say when she called for Sasha-Lee Davids to do the honourable thing and hand the title over to Jason Hartman. Nice one my baayybeeeee.

She said:

“It wasn’t Sasha-Lee’s fault, but she mustn’t be selfish now. Jason is the winner and finish.”

Mara said she could understand that Sasha-Lee was terribly traumatised by hearing she was the winner and being told a week later that she had not really won.

Randall Abrahams disagreed and said Sasha-Lee shouldn’t be punished for something that wasn’t her fault.

Gareth Cliff said the whole affair was “completely unacceptable and a huge embarrassment”, blaming cellphone networks.

Dave Thompson, of course, has already fucked off. [here]

The Idols Story In Words And Numbers

8 May

So who got what in the end? Here are some facts and figures I’ve managed to dig out.

Jason Hartman and Sasha Lee Davids have been declared joint winners of the Idols television talent search competition.

Both winners will win a Sony BMG recording contract, both will receive a Citroen car and all other prizes will be equally “split”.

Patricia Scholtemeyer, M-Net CEO, said:

“When M-Net realised that not all the SMS votes cast before the cut-off time at 18.05 had been received and accounted for, we immediately began corrective action to fully understand the true situation… (The unprecedented number of votes for both Jason and Sasha Lee) is evidence of the immense public following that both out Idols garnered during the course of the competition.”

On the question of why Hartman was not named the outright winner, Scholtemeyer said:

“The question (as to why Jason hasn’t been awarded the sole title) does have some merit. But we – in conjunction with FremantleMedia who owns the Idols franchise – felt the volume of votes for both contestants showed that the public loved them both, so we decided to award it jointly to be fair.”

What Jason and Sasha had to say about it

Hartman:

“Incredible, amazing… And also, to be part of the most unusual Idols ever is the best part… It’s been quite a whirlwind and obviously my family and I were quite shocked when we found out (there may be a mistake with the votes)… To come second and then find out that I’ve actually won and I’ve won alongside Sasha Lee… it’s amazing. I’m all about sharing the love!”

Ever the gentleman, respect to him for saying before the fact that he would split his prize, making it a helluva lot easier for everyone, well maybe not Sasha Lee.

Davids:

“I feel fine, funny enough (laughs)… I think Jason said it all… It’s been like a tornado this past week… Obviously it’s not a nice thing contemplating that the title could be taken away from you… But to be honest, I had psyched myself to hear Jason’s name being called out on the night (of the finale), so I felt something was amiss… But the main aim for me in this competition was to get a recording contract and I’ve still got that, so I’m fine. We’ve both worked so hard… And Jason deserves is as much as anyone else.”

What do people actually MEAN when they say someone deserves something as much as anyone else? I mean Jason deserved this more than ME for example? That one always gets me.

Other quotes from the press conference

“This is competition is driven by the public’s vote. While we acknowledge that this was not the scenario that we had expected or wanted, we are delighted with the outcome as both Jason and Sasha Lee are true Idols…” – Scholtemeyer

“The issue arose out of the sheer number of votes that came through after the cut-off time – there was an unprecedented volume of votes on the final night. And it was the significant number of votes outstanding – we’re talking hundreds of thousands – that alerted us there was a problem and which ultimately shifted the vote in Jason’s favour. But there were uncounted votes for Sasha Lee as well.” – Mark Rayner, CEO of DStv Mobile

The numbers:

  • Jason Hartman received 1,3 million
  • Sasha Lee Davids received 1,1 million
  • Over 600 000 extra legitimate delayed votes were tallied in the recount.

Well that’s that I guess. I suppose we can’t always rely on technology, and a little drama never hurt anyone (well maybe Sasha-Lee ain’t too thrilled) but at least we have TWO potential has beens to follow now. That said, the odds on favourite in my mind to be around in a few years time is… you guessed it, Jason.

Jason Hartman Is The REAL Winner Of Idols

8 May

Well there you have it folks.

Jason Hartman is the real winner of the fifth season of reality show, Idols.

Jason Hartman

Jason Hartman

Hartman will now share the Idol’s crown with Sasha Lee Davids, like I said here.

Hartman had said earlier that he would want to share the crown with Sasha-Lee should he be the real winner. Maybe they should start a pop group?

Davids was initially announced the winner of the fifth Idols reality talent contest on Sunday night.

What a joke. You can read the winners reactions to the news here.

South African Idols Votes Miscounted? The Farce Continues…

7 May

Well tickle my arse with a feather…

This just in folks, there is a mess up on the Idols vote count apparently. So is Sasha-Lee really the winner?

Let me guess theyre gonna cop out and declare them JOINT WINNERS.

This from the Mnet website.

The winner is determined by public vote alone based on the number of votes received for each of the two finalists. An unprecedented number of votes were received for the two finalists, Sasha Lee Davids and Jason Hartman.

M-Net’s post-show analysis revealed however, that a significant number of the SMS votes were received after the cut-off time of 18:05 on Sunday evening, due to possible external system latency.

Theo Erasmus, Channel Director: General Entertainment of M-Net SA, says: “The moment we were alerted to possible system problems, we contacted the mobile network operators to request additional data, which could be verified by independent auditors. M-Net hopes to complete this audit in the shortest time possible. It is crucial to M-Net that our viewers can be assured that every vote counts because accuracy is paramount in a show of this nature.”

The investigation will determine whether these SMS votes were sent by members of the public before the final cut-off time of 18:05 on Sunday evening, thus making them legitimate.

The three mobile network operators and M-Net’s service provider, are all co-operating with M-Net to ensure a speedy outcome.

The two finalists, Sasha Lee and Jason, have been made aware of this investigation and will receive all the necessary support they require during this process. They have both been advised that the results may change.

As soon as the investigation is complete, the results will be made known to the public.

Well Maybe Jason Hartman did win, I referred to this in this post [here]

Role on the results. Maybe Dave had the right idea [here]

Wouldn’t want to be in Atlantis if the result changes! Read what Sasha-Lee and Jason had to say here.

Idols Update: Gareth Cliff Judges Dave Thompson

7 May

Gareth Cliff reckons he is dissapointed with Dave Thompson for leacing Idols and South Africa and says he thinks Thompsons Departure will ‘hamper the show’.

“We’re like a dysfunctional family,” he told News24. “We’ll miss Dave. His dry humour and lack of patience were an entertaining part of the show,” he said.

However, Cliff says that he can’t see why Thompson felt it necessary to leave the country.

He had wanted to leave after the audition process, but eventually agreed to stay for the season.

“You know I don’t agree with emigration. The global community, internet, world financial crisis and War on Terror have all proven that the only reason for emigration from any reasonably civilised place to another should be geography.

“To me that’s a bad reason to uproot yourself. I’m sure Dave and his family have their reasons – I just don’t see them.”

Helen Smit, the head of M-Net’s local production, said if there was another season of Idols, Thompson would have to be replaced.

See they’re all saying IF. I think they should give it a rest now for say like… umm 5 years?

Gareth CLiff should now be head honcho IF they go ahead with a new season.

Shock Horror: South Africans Idols Is A Set Up

5 May

So is South African Idols a total scam? I read a very interesting letter recently on News24.com

Here it is:

“Dear Editor,

I have followed M-Net Idols since its inception. I have spotted great talent and I always tried to vote for these youngsters by what they do best on stage. One of the judges once said that the voting process is unjust and unfair for those who lack resources (DStv and airtime).

The past weekend proved again that Idols was just another immoral show with a focus to make lots of money rather than spotting the finest talent.

Why can’t they involve the judges to the end? Do they understand the demographics of this country? If Idols really is for everyone, why can’t they put fair mechanisms in place that would allow everyone to participate?

Idols is nothing but a scam that will continue to racially divide South Africa. I watched with sadness when one of the top talented girls, Thembi Nkosi, was eliminated from the show because of “insufficient votes” by the public.

The judges and the public always endorsed Thembi and likened her to great superstars. It is very clear from my analysis that Thembi did not make it because of a lack of resources by her followers.

Can’t Idols change this or is it bad for their business? Please take no offence to my letter as none is given. The fact will remain that Thembi was the top talent in 2009 Idols.

I hope music producers spotted this youngster, and also others left who will be eliminated the same way.

I have officially stopped watching as they no longer stand for what I believe in – fairness.

Mzi”

Well thats pretty interesting. I was also watching telly that night but I was barely paying any notice. I decided to scroll through the comments to this post and it was some interesting reading.

Here are a few excerpts:

Somebody must get to the bottom of the allegation, maybe the public are been ripped off as they make huge amounts of cash out of this program. Zuma is serious about fraud, could he look into it. – anon

Like WTF has this got to do with ZUMA? Take a cold shower bru. Here’s some Shower Gel.

Carte Blanche also had a add stating they will be chatting to SA new Idols, The Queen straight of the Idols floor and this add was aired 20min before the winner was announced? Surely someone should follow up on this. – Jacques du Toit

So a bit of useful advice came from the cool head in the group.

Now that’s why you need a PVR :) – Drukkie

Love the name bru. So he / she (hope she ain’t a she called DRUKKIE!!!??) was backed up by these dudes.

i recorded Glitterati on KykNet and what the user says is true, so i dare Mnet to disprove this!! – hoax

Yes I also heard at 18.38 Derek Watts stating that Sasha WOn.. and guess what? I recorded the whole idols, so I have the proof to back it up. ALready on Mnet’s Case about this – pv

This is hot on the heels of Dave Thompson quitting the show and the country in his usual sullen style. He basically fucked off and wont talk to anyone. Wise fella. Even Randall Abrahams his friend of 16 years wasn’t informed.

Real tight there.

Oh and this is what Mara Louw had to say about him leaving.

“If we do have another Idols and I’m asked to judge , I will miss him. But if he is unsuccessful in Australia, we might see him back.”

Wish the DUDE luck not failure you chop.

Take nothing away from Sasha-Lee Davids, but what a shamatuer operation by Mnet, shame on you.

South Africa Idols Judge Leaves South Africa

5 May

So Idols is no more? Just as winner Sasha-Lee Davids enthuses about her new career, the show seems to be falling apart, haveing barely made it through this current season.

Idols Judge, portrayed as this super talent spotting mogul for Sony BMG was actually unemployed?

Beeld reports that the FORMER Idols judge Dave Thompson is unemployed and has left South Africa.

Dave Thompson, was the marketing director at Sony BMG and has now emigrated to Australia.

Helen Smit, the head of M-Net’s local production, said if there was another season of Idols, Thompson would have to be replaced.

Beeld was informed that Thompson wanted to emigrate to Australia sooner and he would initially only have appeared in the first auditions.

He then stayed until the end of the series and left for Australia the day after the last episode.

Seems to me like rats from a sinking ship. Whens Mara leaving?

SA Idols Winner a Cape Town Beauty

4 May

Well I was reading a few posts on the net about the Latest South African Idols winner, Sasha-Lee Davids, when I came across this post.

The writer is either smoking something (maybe this is his car?) or the judges of the SA pageants are. EVERYONE knows Cape Town has the hottest chicks. Repect though to any dude that blogs about South Africa’s beautiful women.

But getting back to Sasha-Lee.

My previous article [here] was all about how I thought perhaps Jason should have won. Now that I’ve done a bit more of a recce on Sasha-Lee (read that as having checked out a few more pics) I think there are worse fates in life than having to hear about her from time to time as she fades into obscurity. At least she is representing the WC (thats West Coast, where incidentally, I’m from).

She has even been compared to Toni Braxton. hmmmm..

Weskus Lekker so

Weskus Lekker so

Can you see the resemblance? Sasha-Lee vs Toni Braxton.

Can you see the resemblance? Sasha-Lee vs Toni Braxton.

Last time someone from the Weskus (ok Kraaifontein) represented at Idols, people got murdered and shit.

Karen? That was horrible.

This isn’t so bad.

Some Random Idols commentary

25 Apr

I was reminded of South African Idols whilst writing a short article on Nandos Adverts just a few minutes ago. I came across a nandos advert which had a few ex idols competitors in, I think.

So I did a quick readme on the latest Idols gossip and all the other dross and I see this season is no different to the last. You see, I don’t really watch idols anymore. I usually watch the top 14 or whatever get selected then lose interest when I realise, yet again, that the actual talent will slip therough the cracks and the dross will rule the rest of the show. (It’s not too dissimilar to how the Super14 used to be after the SA teams were knocked out.)

I also particularly get irritated by the Idols judges. Gareth Cliff is the only talent out of the bunch. Dave Thomas is particularly dull, Mara is just a flippen irritation (as 2oceansvibe correctly state, who ARE you?) and well the less said about Randall the better.

This time round I have to say that if Jason doesnt win, then its a true farce, yet again!

Tonight reports that…

Fans can vote either by the name of the contestant via sms to 34680, by landline calls to the Idols telephone number or cellphone calls. Each phone number is allowed a maximum of 100 votes.

At the finale show next week where another Idol is crowned, the winner walks away with a recording deal from Sony Entertainment.

100 votes? Umm like whats the point?

Just for fun here’s that Mara video. Not well!? Eish my baby!!
