Rocking the Daisies Round Up

12 Oct

Most of you will know I’m a Rocking the Daisies fan. Well this year I was gutted that things didnt quite pan out how I would have like on a massively congested weekend, and I ended up not going! What did happen though was that my old high school derby Day went off really well and my old Team kicked some serious ass. Nice one boys.

So I was looking around for some RTD footage to see how this year’s event went off and found this awesome clip on Zoopy.

Jealous!

Rocking The Daisies 2009 Will Rock Your Socks Off!

23 Jun

Aaaah Fantastic! A mate of mine has just sent me the first press release for the season for Rocking the Daisies. That’s great news, seems this year is going to be bigger than ever. Something to look forward to for after our winter! Bring it on!

Rocking The Daisies 2009 Will Rock Your Socks Off!

Rocking the Daisies, South Africa’s fastest growing eco-friendly music and lifestyle festival is scheduled for 9 – 11 October on Cloof Wine Estate in Darling (Western Cape). Now in its fourth year, the festival has grown from 1,500 to 10,300 attendees and is set to expect 12,000 revellers this year.

Featuring massive headline acts, SA’s freshest homegrown musical talent, DJ’s, comedians, art installations, interactive art fields, gourmet food, earth saving greening initiatives and top notch facilities (including child care), Rocking the Daisies 2009 is set to rock your socks off! Complete Events, the organisers of Rocking the Daisies, are preparing for a bigger and better festival in 2009 and raising the bar yet again to bring fans a fun-packed weekend.

This year’s sponsors include Windhoek Draught, Hemporium, Red Bull, Marshall Music and Levi’s® to name a few. Following on from the success of RADAR 2008, a Red Bull and Rocking the Daisies initiative in partnership with Speakerbox.co.za, the search for SA’s most talented up-and-coming bands will take place once again offering fantastic prizes – including a slot at this year’s festival.

Play hard, tread lightly

As South Africa’s premier eco-friendly music and lifestyle festival, Rocking the Daisies collaborates with reputable green partners every year, incorporating innovative, environmentally conscious products into the festival and spreading the message of ‘play hard, tread lightly’. The Rocking the Daisies mission is not only to educate its community on living greener lifestyles, but to show them how to do it too.

Tony Budden, co-owner of Hemporium and green consultant for the festival remarked, “This year our aim is to make the green initiatives much more visual and integrated into the festival so that the festival-goers can experience them first hand. It is often too easy for the green aspect to get missed when the festival is in full swing. We are therefore going to be working with exciting new partners and innovative products in order to bring the greening elements to the fore”.

What to expect in 2009

Despite the highest rainfall ever recorded at the venue during the month of September 2008, and the resultant mud and subsequent congestion, the response from festival-goers in 2008 was overwhelmingly positive.

To avoid any repeats from last year, Complete Events and Cloof Wine Estate are considering every aspect when preparing for the 2009 festival. Measures include:

  • Only 12,000 tickets on sale at selected outlets and online. Festival attendees will not be able to purchase tickets at the gate, except for a day pass on the Sunday. By knowing how many people to expect, the festival organisers can adequately cater for the required facilities including ablutions, waste removal, security and camping.
  • Speedy and efficient ticket checking systems at the gate to ensure hassle-free entry.
  • Similar to festivals the world over, a park and camp policy will be in place for Rocking the Daisies 2009.
  • There will also be strict policies in place – namely, no under-18’s (unless under-12 and accompanied by a parent), no glass and no open fires.

Says Brian Little, Festival Director from Complete Events: “Rocking the Daisies is in its fourth year and collaboration continues with big brands, green initiatives and individual consultants to bring you the best in music, food, facilities and entertainment – with a difference.  The popularity of the festival last year was confirmed by the challenges we faced – an unprecedented increase in visitor numbers combined with extreme weather – both of which we are prepared for in 2009.  We are also making green practices more accessible this year by showcasing how each and every one of us can make small adjustments in our everyday lives to effect sustainable change”.

Rocking the Daisies in Jo’burg

Complete Events in partnership with Oppikoppi Productions, are bringing Rocking the Daisies to Johannesburg in the form of Rocking the Gardens. The one day event will take place on 3 October 2009 as part of the Old Mutual Encounters Series at Emmarentia Dam, Rocking the Gardens will host SA’s hottest bands.

Says Little, “We are very excited to be extending our festival to other reaches of the country. There is a demand for a festival of this nature in the Jo’burg region and we are pleased to be collaborating with Oppikoppi Productions and Old Mutual to offer the North a taste of the Daisies spirit.”

Visit the revamped www.rockingthedaisies.com website for up to date festival information and to purchase tickets online. From 9 September you can purchase your tickets at the following participating outlets:

  • All Levis® stores, Western Cape
  • Hemporium store (114 Constantia Main Rd, Wynberg)
  • Rafiki’s Restaurant (Kloofnek Road, Cape Town)

Rocking The Daisies Early Bird Tickets Now On Sale

20 May

large_rocking-the-daisies-logo1gifMan I am so stoked about Rocking The Daisies.

Not only is it a kick ass event with superior band line ups and organisation to most events, it’s also got the whole carbon neutral angle going down.

The whole eco village vibe going down really works well. I love that I can go an hour up the road and experience something like this. It usually sets the tone for my summer.

Well I’ve just been informed that early bird tickets are now on sale through webtickets at R320 a pop. Check that out here. This is WELL worth it and let me tell you if you haven’t been to one of these before you’ll regret it big time if you miss out on this one as this year they are only selling a limited amount of tickets. (not too limited mind you but don’t mess up and leave it too late cos you WILL miss out this is gonna be a sell out for sure)

Last year I had an absolute blast and the Rocking the Daisies website [here] is showing a couple of clips of the last event.

Take a look.

You absolutely don’t want to miss this.

Band line ups will be announced sometime in June. I’ll Keep you posted ;-)

28 Apr

It’s Official!!! Rocking the Daisies 2009 has been confirmed for the 9th, 10th and 11th October. Rocking the Daisies is held annually on Cloof Wine Estate in Darling, Western Cape.

I notice its slightly later in the year this year, I’m guessing it’s so we can get  Rocking in full summer after last years’ cold snap. I’m still taking my gumboots, there’s just something so cool about rocking through the weekend with Gumboots. I DEFINATELY won’t be missing this event!

I thoroughly enjoyed the event last year which is a carbon nuetral event as your’e probably aware.

This was the result of last years event:

  • 250 trees planted in the Koringberg community
  • 5 trees were planted on Cloof Wine Estate on the weekend of the festival.
  • 20 tons (150 cubic meters) of waste was collected.

19.32 tons of this was recycled

This included:

  • 9 tons of tin
  • 1.2 tons of PET (plastic bottles and the like)
  • 420 kg cardboard
  • 8.7 tons of glass

With only 5 months left we are definitely on the fast track. The official website is still under contruction.
