If Afrikaans Could Only Dance
When people think of Afrikaans music they generally start frowning and slagging the music, because let’s face it, when I say Afrikaans music the first thing you thought about was music back in the day when it was all big Afrikaans words and basically sounded like something out of a bad drama or porn movie.
In the last couple of years Afrikaans music has become bigger in South Africa, this country is so beautiful, the people who run it may not be perfect but let’s face it, we produce some of the best bands in the world. Don’t believe me?.. look here
So quite obviously I am Afrikaans. I like my music and I listen to everything, trust me.
Joe Social wrote something on a band called Bittereinder a while back and I love love love these guys. I went to school with one of them and I must say, all those amateur performances, the mind numbing strumming during break was totally worth it! You can also read about Yesterday’s Pupil here . I am a big fan…10 years later but they got me eventually! You can read more about Bittereinder here.
This morning I saw a little gem on the net and I thought I might share it with you. Lucky for you there are english subtitles in this video hey???!! Basically this song is about a guy who is completely crazy about this chick..die ontmaskerde Heldin
If I could write songs to my Jelly Bear, they would sound something like this…
I am a big fan of these guys as well. Just shows you what talentented people this country has!
You can read more about Glaskas here

I totally agree about there being some world-class SA acts these days but have to say, I wouldn’t count the Parlotones among them – I just can’t stand them and really don’t get the hype…
I’m a big fan of Bittereinder too – they’re awesome! Hooray for local music
