The Thrill 3.4
24 May
Last weekend I had the pleasure of accompanying my dear friend The Thrill [more about him here] on his birthday rounds.
First up we had pizza at the Thrills place. Being of Italian decent, he knows the drill when it comes to Pizza. There was also Chilli Vodka. Now I know I love my Tequila, but I’m not a total idiot so I layed off the Chilli Vodka, something I would be thankful for later.
Larger, eager to get started with the nights events wolfed down his portion of Pizza (he had more than everyone, he is a growing lad) poste haste, thanking (silently) the Greek for not coming. The three of us, Thrill, myself and Larger, were joined for the evening by Colonel Murray Head.
So after a quick run through to Largers place for him to get a BELT (and for me to go through a road block, minus alcohol in my system, and pick up a ticket for my license disk not being visible, THANKS Larger) we were off to Mitchells in the Waterfront. I know, its lame he didn’t have a belt I mean who goes out without a belt nowadays?
Ok so we get to Mitchells and wait impatiently for the Greek to be let out by the wife. In the time that passed we got in a few drinks while I silently scoped out the talent. Just as I found a decent target at the other end of the bar, knobface greek turns up and The Thrill gets majorly insistent on going to Quay 4. Like massively so. Needless to say myself and the Colonel were pretty bummed as the talent was starting to cast furtive glances our way.
But being The Thrills birthday we had to go.
So we get to Quay 4 and The Thrill promptly bribes the band with about 8 double Sambucas to let Larger have a go at the mike. All in the name of birthdays you see. Complete overkill, I’m sure 8 single Sambucas would have been just as good.
Gotta admit that argument is getting a bit lame, The Thrill seems to think it’s his birthday every week.
You probably know that Larger does the whole entertainment vibe for a living, and he did not disappoint, delivering a great performance of Roadhouse Blues. You simply have to hear this guy do The Doors, he is great.
He was good enough for Clint Eastwoods crew when they did the wrap party [here] for Eastwoods new movie, The Human Factor. He is good enough for you. Whether you’re good enough for him… well that’s another story altogether.
I caught him in action.
That was shortly followed by a celebratory round of drinks, after which Colonel Murray Head, Larger and Thrill looked like this.
Larger was totally stoked there after his massive round of applause. Larger gets a total buzz out of this as you can see. He is a top karaoke dj dude in Cape Town. He does corporate events, karaoke, discos you name it.
You can catch him at his regular Monday Night slot at the Bronx Action Bar in Geeenpoint, where he and Thrill have a cult following for their Monday Night 80′s vibe they got going down there.
Thrill then tried to set me up with a chick that I wasn’t remotely attracted to (sorry chicka) so after a bit of muttering there we went on our merry way.
Thrill then tried his best to get a lawsuit out of the V&A WAterfront by tripping over those wet floor signs you see.
He tried TWICE. He failed both times. Eventually he was in danger of being asked to leave so we had to go.
We went through to decoDance at the /Old Biscuit Mill, which is owned by a mate of ours. It was a pleasant change in scenery and if you want to go to an underground alternative club in Cape Town, then pay this place a visit. There are very few quality places catering for this genre in Cape Town, and decoDance doesn’t disappoint.
Catch Larger and Thrill at Bronx Action Bar on a Monday night. monday 10pm-3am.
