Memorial Service For Beached Whales – Umm ok…

You read that one right. Some people have waaay too much time on their hands.

They had a memorial service for the Whales that died last weekend on Kommetjie Beach.

Now that’s a wonderful sentiment but a memorial service? I can just imagine.

We didn’t know Wally Whale for very long, but he brought such joy to our lives. He will be sorely missed. He used to always be such a happy Whale. He loved fish, swimming and had a marvellous singing voice. He would be missed by his missus (geddit) and kids, but they committed mass suicide.

That’s like having a memorial service for a fish! I like animals as much as the next person but I just don’t get this!

Firstly, they laid flowers in the sea. Like the Whales ever had opportunity to even know what flowers are? How could they then appreciate the symbolism. Oh wait there must have been other Whales watching who would get that part.

As for those large lemon slices the dudes are banging, whats that all about?

Candles were arranged in the shape of a fish on the jetty, much more appealing methinks than flowers, however I think picture six says it all. Anyway it was on the jetty, so any whales out there clearly couldn’t see it. This was obviously only done the for the benefit of the humans on the land. That’s just so not cool.

Oblivious to all of this two Whales lazed offshore in sight of the onlookers.

The chick on the left in photo 11 looks like she just klapped a McFeast Deluxe with extra fries.
