EG Jansen High School rugby coach, Schalk Snyman assaulted referree Mlungiseleli Mdashe after a first team match in Boksburg on Saturday. Clever move Schalk. That’ll do your career the world of good. Action is at 1:15.

Now I was over at the dentist in Milnerton yesterday, run by a mate of mine, and just a cursory glance around the walls would have one wondering if such a claim had any substance. But, I guess this is for Hollywood and everything goes down well there if you’re A-list material.

It’s safe to say 50ml is not the same as 25ml shots and we were basically pissed before the game even started.  Rugby? I don’t remember any rugby?  But we were there to watch the rugby… apparently. I of course had other plans – having sneaky cigarettes with the oukies that were sitting in the box next to us. They don’t call me Asstastic for nothing.

I had to disguise some faces here but agent X defo did have some Freddy Kruger vibes going on so I helped him out a little in this picture.

The verdict – Rugby in the box was awesome especially because I got pissed after 2 drinks… so unprofessional of me. Does anyone know how the game ended?

Well much to my absolute delight I read a story this morning that perfectly fits in with WTF Wednesday!!

I read a story about a Chinese Zookeeper who licked his monkeys anus for an hour, so that the poor primate could lose a peanut he swallowed. That’s a whole lot of dedication and a bit of nuts right there. Littered with puns so please pardon them.

After a young Francois’ leaf monkey in his care consumed a peanut that had been tossed into its enclosure, Wuhan Zoo employee Zhang Bangsheng noticed that the animal had become dangerously constipated.

Being too big to pass through the monkey’s system naturally, the peanut had to be extracted manually. Apparently, that meant licking it out.

Zhang told local reporters the three-month-old lutung was too small for laxatives, so he had no choice but to extract the wayward legume with his lingua. After washing the its bottom with warm water (because not doing so would be disgusting), Zhang spent an hour polishing the monkey’s pooper before the peanut finally popped out.

This morning on the school run I stopped outside my favourite drinking hole Doodles, to snap this pic of our mountain. I just couldn’t not do it. It was pretty fortuitous as it turned out because as I got online I saw a facebook post from The Loose Wheel bemoaning her outcast state, wailing at the wall that is Table Mountain (figuratively), wishing herself on Blouberg Beach right now.

The poor, poor thing. Joburg is lekker but do you have a funny looking mountain?

The masseur – known only as John Doe #1 – had filed a $2-million lawsuit against Travolta, claiming that the Pulp Fiction star had made inappropriate sexual advances toward him during a massage at a Los Angeles hotel on 16 January.

However, after it was proven that Travolta was in New York at the time of the alleged incident, the masseur claimed to have made a “miscalculation” about the date – and has since been dumped by Los Angeles attorney Okorie Okorocha.

A source told RadarOnline: “Okorocha did not feel he could represent John Doe #1 going forward anymore and recommend him finding another lawyer.”

A new Russian startup has reportedly built a system to track and shut down copyrighted material distributed via the BitTorrent protocol.

Pirate Pay has received a $100 000 investment from Microsoft’s Seed Financing Fund as well, TorrentFreak reported.

The company’s first project, in collaboration with Walt Disney Studios and Sony Pictures, managed to stop tens of thousands of downloads. It’s not clear how many downloads were successful, however.

So what does this mean? In a nutshell, this find means the following:

• Contrary to popular myth, the Mayan calendar does not foretell doom in 2012.
• The new discovery of elaborate paintings and etchings have been uncovered in the ancient Maya city of Xultun, Guatemala.
• This monumental finding supports the fact that the Maya used cyclical calendars.

The oldest-known version of the ancient Maya calendar has been discovered adorning a lavishly painted wall in the ruins of a city deep in the Guatemalan rainforest.

The hieroglyphs, painted in black and red, along with a colorful mural of a king and his mysterious attendants, seem to have been a sort of handy reference chart for court scribes in A.D. 800 — the astronomers and mathematicians of their day.

It’s Not the End of the World

It’s almost as if an ancient scribe got sick of flipping through a document to find his timekeeping chart and decided to put it on the wall for at-a-glance reference, Stuart said.

“It’s kind of like having a whiteboard in your office where you’re writing down formulas that you want to remember,” he said.

“The Mayan calendar is going to keep going for billions, trillions, octillions of years into the future,” said archaeologist David Stuart of the University of Texas, who worked to decipher the glyphs. “Numbers we can’t even wrap our heads around.”

The Maya recorded time in a series of cycles, including 400-year chunks called baktuns. It’s these baktuns that have led to rumors of an end-of-the-world catastrophe on Dec. 21, 2012 — on that date, a cycle of 13 baktuns will be complete. But the idea that this means the end of the world is a misconception, Stuart said. In fact, Maya experts have known for a long time that the calendar doesn’t end after the 13th baktun. It simply begins a new cycle. And the calendar encompasses much larger units than the baktun.

“There were 24 units of time they actually could have incorporated into their calendar,” Stuart said. “Here, we’re only seeing five units and they’re still really big.”

In one column, the ancient scribe even worked out a cycle of time recording 17 baktuns, the researchers found. In another spot, someone etched a “ring number” into the wall. These notations were used to record time in a previous cycle, thousands of years into the past. The calendar also appears to note the cycles of Mars and Venus, the researchers said. Symbols of gods head the top of each lunar cycle, suggesting that each cycle had its own patron deity.

Some appear to be the 365-day solar calendar, the 584-day cycle of the planet Venus and the 780-day cycle of Mars, said archaeologist William Saturno of Boston University, who led the exploration and excavation.

According to Saturno, the writing looks like someone’s attempt to sort out a very long math problem, as if on a blackboard.

“For the first time we get to see what may be actual records kept by a scribe, whose job was to be official record keeper of a Maya community,” Saturno said.

“The ancient Maya predicted the world would continue, that 7 000 years from now, things would be exactly like this,” he added.

“We keep looking for endings. The Maya were looking for a guarantee that nothing would change. It’s an entirely different mindset.”
