F1 Street Circuit For Cape Town – Deal Close To Being Signed

5 Jul

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has exclusively told Eyewitness News that Cape Town is in line to host a Grand Prix within two years.

For over a decade, various reports have indicated a return to South Africa for the sport, but according to the F1 supremo, a deal is now weeks away from being signed.

Ecclestone was unable to give precise details, but the location of a proposed street circuit points toward the Waterfront and Green Point area.

The South African Grand Prix was last hosted at Kyalami in 1993. It was won by Frenchman Alain Prost.According to Ecclestone, negotiations for its return are in the final stages.

NewsCorp And Ferrari Shareholder Looking To Buy Formula One

4 May

This just in, and no they don’t mean the Budget Hotel.

Formula One could face a joint takeover bid from Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation and an investment company linked to Ferrari.

Media giant News Corporation and Italian investment firm Exor said on Tuesday that they were working together to search for other investors to potentially fund a bid for the motor racing series, which has been owned by private equity firm CVC Capital Partners since 2006.

Wonder what that would mean for the TV rights and medai angles around this.

Exciting Times. My Mate Patrick is probably salivating right now.

Red Bull Showcar Burning Up Chapmans Peak – Video

15 Apr

I know a few petrol heads who are gonna loooove this shit.

If you had an F1 car and you had a bit of spare time on your hands, where in Cape Town would you take it for a cruise? That’s right,  Chapmans Peak is the obvious choice. After the disappointment that we all felt when they moved the Red Bull Showcar event from Blouberg Beachfront to the more sedate Killarney Race Track, this is the next best thing.

Shane this one is for you.

Enjoy!

Red Bull F1 Show Car Event Moved

Yes peeps, in case you hadn’t already heard, the Red Bull F1 Show Car event has been moved to the more sedate location of Killarney Race Track.

So be warned, don’t pitch up at Blouberg Beachfront this Sunday the 27th of March in the year of our lord 2011. I won’t be handing out directions. Hell I probably won’t even be there. Just get your ass down to Killarney Race Track and check things out there.

This will NOT be seen alongside the Seli 1 Wreck this weekend. Shame.

If you want directions try find them here, I couldn’t and I’m watching the cricket so I gave up.

What NOT To Do With Your Lamborghini

16 Mar

A frustrated Chinese millionaire has destroyed his faulty 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo supercar following numerous mechanical issues and poor treatment from service staff.

According to China Car Times, the former Lamborghini owner decided the best way to draw attention to his plight was to take to his black bull with a few sledgehammers, aligning the day of destruction with World Consumer Rights Day on March 15 for maximum exposure.

Red Bull F1 Showcar In Blouberg This Month

14 Mar

The Red Bull F1 Running Showcar takes Formula One to the streets and stops traffic all over the world. This month it will be in my own neighbourhood passing by my own local beachfront bar and it’ll unfortunately keep me off the roads for a few hours (maybe that’s a good thing!) as I live on this road. At least I have a great vantage point to see things from…

What a view!

When Red Bull Racing was formed back in 2005, a separate squad was established to take a full-spec Formula One car to places and countries where there are no races, to give them a taste of F1. From South Africa to Russia, from Japan to Jamaica, the team’s drivers have been providing the fastest street entertainment on the planet ever since.

As well as promoting the teams around the globe to markets F1 doesn’t otherwise reach, it’s a chance for those countries without a race to get up very close to an F1 car doing what it’s made for. The high-speed runs, burnouts and doughnuts coupled with the noise and fumes make it a thrilling experience.

Now it’s OUR Turn, the Red Bull Showcar will be whizzing past you at these times…
