Twinmassproducer – Parking Attendant Of The Year

4 Jan

Our funny man friend, The Twinmassproducer, and I have been, for weeks now keeping our eye on a BMW X3 parked in and around our complex. Not because it’s a cool car but because this person is quite obviously part of the PLAP club. This woman parks over two parking bays without fail every single time. (more…)

Cape Town Hump Day Special – Dirty Dancers

24 Aug

It’s  hump day in Cape Town and the sun is out and I’m sure you are all looking forward to a great, fabulous, fantastic, exciting weekend. I sure as hell am! Your hump day special is brought to you by Me, Asstastic and Mahpicky my Side-Kicky.

I recently wrote an article on my BFF and how lame it is that she has moved away from Cape Town. Life is just too dull without her and we would like to have the sparkle back in our lives!

I went through some pictures on my trusted Blackberry and came across some errr pictures. Let’s just say, we  make the chicks in this video look like amateurs!

ha!

Ok maybe not quite as dirty as this but you would pretty much have to go wash your eyes our with bleach…

Asstastic & The Loosewheel Chronicles

22 Aug

My bestest Best Friend - The LooseWheel – has moved back to the land of dust and little water. She left Cape Town for errr greener pastures. I was recently in Pretoria ( the land of dust and little water) and we had a big party just because we could and because our regular sunday morning coffee/cigarettes/wine/laughter ( depending what mood we were in) on the beach front has now been cancelled indefinately. Sad faces all around!

As you know  The LooseWheel was our ambasador for National Unibrow day, and like me, she liked to braai and talk kak. But she is gone and I think this is why the weather has been so KAK in Cape Town Lately.

So this article is for her to remember all the crazy people who love her down here. Mahpicky the Side Kicky and I really miss her and we think it’s time she comes back. Bring back your sunshine, bring back your laughter , bring back your crude and twisted sense of humour and bring back our mountain! (more…)

ZAR Faces Closure

4 Jul

Management of the trendy ZAR nightclub in Cape Town have been warned to obtain valid operating licences or face closure.

The night spot, which opened in January this year, is operating without liquor, entertainment and business licences.

The club, which is owned by business tycoon Kenny Kunene, is housed at the Cape Royale Hotel in Greenpoint.

It is believed the club is operating on the hotel’s licences.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said nightclub management will be issued with a notice.

“As for the business licence, when they get the first notice it will give them a warning and a minimal time to comply. Failing so, we will take them to court,” he said.

Smith said the SAPS Liquor Unit will also issue ZAR management with a final notice.

Athol Trollip Is A Very Naughty Boy

20 Jun

For those of you who don’t know, Athol Trollip is the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and a very well respected member of the DA.

He has quite a list of achievements to his name, however email ettiquette is obviously not amongst them as evidenced by his faux pas last week. It all began with an email from a certain Mr Jaap Kelder – an Afrikaans member of the Taxpayers Union and FF+ supporter, which was sent to the DA enquiring about comments made by Lindiwe Mazibuko with reference to land reform.

The email apparently raised Mr Trollips hackles and prompted him to forward the email to a fellow MP, Annette Steyn, with a message that read as follows:

“Please answer this Asshole once and for all, deal with the Afrikaner issue that he raises and tell him to stop masquerading as a rate payer organization especially if he is the reincarnation of the AWB, KP, FF+ , NAZI. Stuur die IDIOOT in sy moer in asseblief. Athol.”

The only problem is he hit the reply button instead of forward…

Which is why the best piece of email advice I have ever received is – and always will be – NEVER send an email when you’re angry.

Into the naughty corner Athol.

The Castle Of Good Hope Is Falling Apart

20 Jun

Well maybe.

The government is pumping more than R1 million into the restoration of the Castle of Good Hope – raising concerns that the country’s oldest building is falling apart.

The maintenance started in May and includes the reinforcement of walls and fixing of roof leaks. The decision to do the work was taken after slates on the Leerdam bastion came loose a few months ago.

Seems to me that a once a decade restoration is about right. I question whether it’s wise to host the J&B Global party there on Friday this week.

Gabriël Fagan Architects, which did extensive preservation work at the castle in 1999, have again been called upon to do the restoration work at the historic building.

The Parlotones To Support Cold Play

15 Jun

The Parlotones have been chosen to support Coldplay, who will be performing live for the first time ever in South Africa on Wednesday 5th October at Cape Town Stadium and Saturday 8th October at the Soccer City Complex, FNB Stadium Johannesburg. The tour is presented by 94.5 KFM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and M-Net.

The Parlotones are known for their electric, polished stage performances delivered against the backdrop of their deftly crafted and darkly romantic lyrics. In the last 12 months The Parlotones have: released the platinum selling “Stardust Galaxies” which won Best Rock Album at the 2010 SAMA’s, performed at the Opening World Cup Concert to a billion viewers, completed a 70 city world tour and entered 3 Billboard charts in the USA. The Parlotones commented: ‘There is only one band in the World that we would support in our home country and what an honour it was to be invited by that very band. Coldplay has been an inspiration to us and we are very excited to have the privilege of sharing the stage with the greatest band in the world’

Coldplay’s songs have captured millions of fans around the world since the release of ‘Parachutes’ in 2000. After the success of ‘Parachutes’, Coldplay began to work on their second album ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ (2002) which spawned popular singles ’The Scientist’, ‘In My Place’ and ‘Clocks’ winning Record of the Year at the 2004 Grammys. The third album ‘X&Y’ became the best selling album of 2005 with world-wide sales of 11 million. ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends’ (2008) is described by Martin as a new direction for Coldplay, a change from their past three albums, which they referred to as the trilogy. It became the bands first number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and their first UK number one based on download sales alone.

I’m not sure what to say except I am REALLY excited . My two favourite bands and I get to see it with my number 1 person! whoohooo!Have you got your ticket yet?

The Best Guesthouse In Town

10 Jun

Yesterday Joe Social and I went over to our mate Bill’s Guesthouse. We were looking for a place to have staff breakfasts and work functions at an affordable price, he suggested we come by and have a look to see if his spot would be suitable.

Home away from home I tell you! Bonus? It’s located close to the beach and 15 minutes from major highways and 15 minutes from Cape Town Center, it’s perfect for holiday accommodation or even if you are just staying over night on business. And it has a bar. Lovely!

The Guesthouse offers a suberb breakfast / dinner , the house itself is very roomy , the property sports a fabulous garden and you will feel at home straight away.

Rates start at R500 per room per night. All rooms are double with an en suite bathroom. Kiff hey?!

Having worked in the Hotel industry myself, I must say I was impressed. So, if you’re heading down to the Cape I suggest you give these guys a call.

Northern suburbs residents will have an alternative form of public transport from today

The integrated rapid transit (IRT) bus service in Milnerton and Table View to Cape Town hits the road for the first time.

The Cape Town Rapid Transport System Starts On Monday

5 May

This is something we have all been waiting for. I live out on the West Coast and getting into the CBD has been a nightmare for as long as I can remember. Add to that the massive growth this region has seen and it’s a no brainer that this system is needed. Imagine the avenues that are now open to all those people without cars or regular transport while live in this area. (more…)

Cape Town Voted Number One Travel Destination – Tripadvisor

4 May

I just read about this one over at www.Lifeissavage.com (One of my favourite SA sites go check it out)

TripAdvisor, the worlds Largest Travel Website, has Cape Town listed as their Travelers choice number 1 travel destination for the year 2011. Beat that. No world cup needed thank you very much.

That works just fine for me. You see I often spout off about Cape Town and mates of mine like my mate Jez in London (yes that’s right Jez) think I’m just being a patriotic dick, but this proves that it’s not just me! Billions of people… ok maybe not billions, but LOTS of people like Cape Town and that’s that.

Winna Winna Number One!

Makes me very proud truth be told.

We worked hard on that mountain. I was up all night making that Lions Head section…

Decorex Is On This Weekend At The CTICC

28 Apr

Well that’s another Easter under the belt and after a long weekend of Halaal Easter Egg hunts and pickled fish, many of you are probably wondering what to do for this long weekend? Now if like me, the Royal Wedding is less appealing to you than watching paint dry, then I can go one better and suggest a trip to the CTICC for the Decorex SA exhibition that runs from 29 April until 2 May.

This interior design and decor extravaganza promises to get the creative juices flowing and may lead to some inspiration for the winter ahead where we all finally get around to that DIY that we’ve been putting off all summer long (we Capetonian’s just don’t think it’s right to waste the world’s best weather indoors).

There’s something for everyone with themes ranging from the DSTV theatre of ideas to the All things green house and opportunities to support local crafts. It promises to be an inspiring day out and may just be the perfect way to work off any hangovers that result from the titanic Super rugby clash taking place between the Stormers and the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday afternoon.

Tickets are R60 per adult and if you’re a DSTV subscriber, you can take your statement or smartcard with for a buy 1 get 1 free offer, so even more reason to go along. More details on the exhibition can be found here
