Twinmassproducer – Parking Attendant Of The Year

4 Jan

Our funny man friend, The Twinmassproducer, and I have been, for weeks now keeping our eye on a BMW X3 parked in and around our complex. Not because it’s a cool car but because this person is quite obviously part of the PLAP club. This woman parks over two parking bays without fail every single time. (more…)

Asstastic & The Loosewheel Chronicles

22 Aug

My bestest Best Friend - The LooseWheel – has moved back to the land of dust and little water. She left Cape Town for errr greener pastures. I was recently in Pretoria ( the land of dust and little water) and we had a big party just because we could and because our regular sunday morning coffee/cigarettes/wine/laughter ( depending what mood we were in) on the beach front has now been cancelled indefinately. Sad faces all around!

As you know  The LooseWheel was our ambasador for National Unibrow day, and like me, she liked to braai and talk kak. But she is gone and I think this is why the weather has been so KAK in Cape Town Lately.

So this article is for her to remember all the crazy people who love her down here. Mahpicky the Side Kicky and I really miss her and we think it’s time she comes back. Bring back your sunshine, bring back your laughter , bring back your crude and twisted sense of humour and bring back our mountain! (more…)

ANC charges Malema with misconduct

19 Aug

The ANC said on Friday that it had served charges this morning on Julius Malema, president of its youth wing.

In a statement the party said: “Comrade Julius Malema has been charged with various violations of the ANC constitution, including bringing the ANC into disrepute through his utterances and statements on Botswana and sowing divisions in the ranks of the African National Congress.

Shrien Dewani Can Be Extradited

10 Aug

A British judge on Wednesday ruled that Shrien Dewani should be extradited to South Africa to face charges for his wife’s murder.

District Judge Howard Riddle said that Dewani can be extradited, pending approval from the UK’s home secretary.

Riddle said that “only by going to stand trial can Dewani be acquitted & clear his name. That may improve his mental illness”.

Foo Fighters Do Falling Down

18 Jul

I’m a big Foo Fighters fan. Dave Grohl in particular just gives that vibe that it’s all about the rock.

Driving guitars, heart-pounding drums and growling lyrics tempered with some amazing melodies and a massive dose of stage presence make them one of the bands that appear on my “must see live” list before I (or any of them) are too old or too dead to do so.

Another thing I enjoy about them is their ability to take the complete mickey out of themselves in some of their music videos. Take “Low” where Jack Black and Dave Grohl get up to some night time shenanigans in a motel. Or “Learning to Fly” which features both of Tenacious D’s members accidentally spiking the coffee on board an airplane being flown by the Foo’s.

And their latest video for the track “Walk” off the Wasting Light album (an excellent listen). This one is a take on the great Michael Douglas movie, “Falling Down” and is definitely worth a watch.

Enjoy.

Shem Davies Is A Grandfather

15 Jul

Which makes him quite famous or infamous in the UK depending on how you look at things.

Why? Well, Shem has just achieved the notable “accolade” of being named Britains youngest grandfather – aged just 29!

Yup, Shem’s family are taking the UK’s teen-pregnancy vibe to a whole new level. To give you the abridged version of events, Shem Davies became a father to young Tia at aged 14. Not to be outdone of course, Tia has herself given birth to a little girl, Ava one week shy of her 15th birthday, making Shem the UK’s youngest grandad! (more…)

‘Universal’ Number Plates For SA On The Cards – Bad Idea

5 Jul

The transport department is considering introducing uniform vehicle number plates to be used in all provinces, the Business Day reported on Tuesday.

Just another money making scheme methinks. Do we really need this?

This comes just a few months after Gauteng launched a new series of aluminium number plates.

Currently, each province has its own number plate design, colours, and numbering scheme.Responding to a parliamentary question from Congress of the People MP Dirk Feldman, Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele said uniform number plates would help South Africa achieve uniformity with vehicles from the region.

“All the plates would denote the Republic of SA , with the relevant province being allowed a certain portion of a plate wherein they can display provincial logos,” he said .

That’s all fine and dandy but do our citizens really need a new system that IS going to cost us money whatever the esteemed minister says? How much is the goverment going to pay for this to happen? How about spending the money on service delivery so that we don’t face a mass uprising by the unemployed masses, or is this something the government wants to happen?

Bad Idea.

ZAR Faces Closure

4 Jul

Management of the trendy ZAR nightclub in Cape Town have been warned to obtain valid operating licences or face closure.

The night spot, which opened in January this year, is operating without liquor, entertainment and business licences.

The club, which is owned by business tycoon Kenny Kunene, is housed at the Cape Royale Hotel in Greenpoint.

It is believed the club is operating on the hotel’s licences.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said nightclub management will be issued with a notice.

“As for the business licence, when they get the first notice it will give them a warning and a minimal time to comply. Failing so, we will take them to court,” he said.

Smith said the SAPS Liquor Unit will also issue ZAR management with a final notice.

Malema Toilet Still Not Enclosed

24 Jun

The toilet Julius Malema posed next to during a pre-election damage-control blitz in the Free State town of Viljoenskroon is still not fully enclosed.

Malema, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula, senior party member Tony Yengeni and Free State Premier Ace Magashule went to the township of Rammolotsi in the wake of the ANC’s own open-toilet saga, promising to enclose them.

The ANC entourage gave themselves a two-month deadline on May 10 to have all the toilets enclosed.

But the toilet outside the home of wheelchair-bound Kleinbooi Ndezi, 60, has no roof or ramp for him to access it, which the leaders promised him.

Athol Trollip Is A Very Naughty Boy

20 Jun

For those of you who don’t know, Athol Trollip is the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly and a very well respected member of the DA.

He has quite a list of achievements to his name, however email ettiquette is obviously not amongst them as evidenced by his faux pas last week. It all began with an email from a certain Mr Jaap Kelder – an Afrikaans member of the Taxpayers Union and FF+ supporter, which was sent to the DA enquiring about comments made by Lindiwe Mazibuko with reference to land reform.

The email apparently raised Mr Trollips hackles and prompted him to forward the email to a fellow MP, Annette Steyn, with a message that read as follows:

“Please answer this Asshole once and for all, deal with the Afrikaner issue that he raises and tell him to stop masquerading as a rate payer organization especially if he is the reincarnation of the AWB, KP, FF+ , NAZI. Stuur die IDIOOT in sy moer in asseblief. Athol.”

The only problem is he hit the reply button instead of forward…

Which is why the best piece of email advice I have ever received is – and always will be – NEVER send an email when you’re angry.

Into the naughty corner Athol.

The Castle Of Good Hope Is Falling Apart

20 Jun

Well maybe.

The government is pumping more than R1 million into the restoration of the Castle of Good Hope – raising concerns that the country’s oldest building is falling apart.

The maintenance started in May and includes the reinforcement of walls and fixing of roof leaks. The decision to do the work was taken after slates on the Leerdam bastion came loose a few months ago.

Seems to me that a once a decade restoration is about right. I question whether it’s wise to host the J&B Global party there on Friday this week.

Gabriël Fagan Architects, which did extensive preservation work at the castle in 1999, have again been called upon to do the restoration work at the historic building.

FF+ Slams Malema ‘land grab’ Talk

20 Jun

Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Mulder on Sunday called on farmers to “safeguard” themselves, following ANC Youth League president Julius Malema’s vow earlier in the day to “take the land without payment”.

In a statement, he warned that Malema’s comments on land ownership were “taking us back to the period before 1994, when violence and even the possibility of a civil war was part of the South African debate”.Mulder — who also serves in President Jacob Zuma’s Cabinet as deputy agriculture minister — said there was no difference between Malema’s viewpoint on land and land policy, and that of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, who had destroyed his country’s economy.
