At socialyz we have a new South African Idols favourite and our vote will be going to Dave. The whole country got driven to tears as Dave Van Vuuren performed his version of Don McLean’s Vincent. If you know the original then I’m sure you’ll appreciate Dave’s version on the song.

I guess this song is the new favourite, mainly because It’s always played on the radio atleast 20 times a day and because I have about 5 cd’s in my car with this song on it. Wild-haired Idols contestant Freddie van’Dango reportedly had his jaw broken in a fight with a “cage fighter”. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning in Greenside.

Though M-Net spokesperson Lani Lombard denied that Van’Dango’s jaw was broken, saying that the popular singer was only injured, there are serious doubts as to whether Van’Dango will be able to attend tonight’s Idols results show.

Lady Gaga has a new single out, and it’s a bit of a freak show, mermaids being boned and all that, I kid you not. Called “Yoü And I”, it’s he usual offering meant to shock.

I’m a big Foo Fighters fan. Dave Grohl in particular just gives that vibe that it’s all about the rock.

Driving guitars, heart-pounding drums and growling lyrics tempered with some amazing melodies and a massive dose of stage presence make them one of the bands that appear on my “must see live” list before I (or any of them) are too old or too dead to do so.

Another thing I enjoy about them is their ability to take the complete mickey out of themselves in some of their music videos. Take “Low” where Jack Black and Dave Grohl get up to some night time shenanigans in a motel. Or “Learning to Fly” which features both of Tenacious D’s members accidentally spiking the coffee on board an airplane being flown by the Foo’s.

And their latest video for the track “Walk” off the Wasting Light album (an excellent listen). This one is a take on the great Michael Douglas movie, “Falling Down” and is definitely worth a watch.

The video for I Wanna Go, begins with the singer hosting a mock press conference.

The first question fired at her is: ‘Is it true you banned junk food, smiles, sunshine, candy and laughter from your Femme Fatale tour?’ to which she replies, ‘Yes’. She is then asked if she can confirm reports she is pregnant with Brad Pitt’s  lovechild.  Britney leans into the microphone, and says : ‘That’s false, it’s quintuplets’.

If it were me I’d rather have the cop in the video’s “lustchild”.

The mum-of-two, grows tiresome of the journalists and then launches into a rant of ‘F*** yous’ before turning to leave.

I Wanna Go is the third single from her platinum selling seventh studio album Femme Fatale.

We all know Amy Winehouse is a total disaster, and we all know they tried to make her go to rehab, but she said nooo nooo no!

Well she is back, and by the looks of things she is worse than before. This is a video of her taken at her recent Belgrade ‘performance’. Seems to me she didn’t even know she was there.

The Parlotones have been chosen to support Coldplay, who will be performing live for the first time ever in South Africa on Wednesday 5th October at Cape Town Stadium and Saturday 8th October at the Soccer City Complex, FNB Stadium Johannesburg. The tour is presented by 94.5 KFM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and M-Net.

M-Net has launched a brand new campaign full of colours, creativity and music from South Africa’s favourite band, The Parlotones, “evoking” that Magic feeling.

The creation of The Parlotones’ new song, It’s Magic, cements a  partnership between M-Net and the South African superstars. It is the first time that the Parlotones have written a brand new song for a TV channel, as well as the first time in South Africa that a TV channel is creating a radio release as part of a brand new campaign. The Parlotones won three South African Music Awards last month.

And we love him for it. This morning The Frenchconnection sent me this video and my toes just curled over! On socialyz we always write about Bieber fever and The Lady Gaga Saga and this just adds to our pot of “Baga” articles. Just type their names in our search box and you’ll see what I mean.

So, back to Eminem’s new song featuring Royce Da 5′ 9″ .

In the track Eminem raps: “Tell Lady Gaga she can quit her job at the post office.She’s still a male lady. Wouldn’t f**k her with her d**k, You heard it, The verdict’s in.”

Gaga mocked rumours she was actually a hermaphrodite  after a photo of her in England showed a bulge in her underwear – by saying she was planning to wear a fake penis on stage. She said: “I want to wear a d**k strapped to my vagina. We all know that one of the biggest talking points of the year was that I have a d**k, so why not give them what they want?

The song is scheduled to appear under Eminem and Royce’s Bad Meets Evil name, on their ‘ Hell: The Sequel EP‘. Elsewhere within the track, Eminem jokes about Justin Bieber. 

Joe Social and I are regulars at our local and twice a year the owners take all the regulars on a little trip. This weekend we got treated to the Big Five Show at Barnyard in Willowbridge.

Reggae and rap star Sean Kingston is in critical conditional after a jet skiing accident on Sunday night, a report has said.

According to the Daily Mail, the 21-year-old was rushed to a Miami Beach hospital after he struck a major bridge connecting Palm Island with the MacArthur Causeway.

He is currently being treated in a trauma ward, due to the nature of his severe injuries, the report said.

The singer, who had success with the hit song Beautiful Girls, reportedly also had a woman on board with him, according to TMZ.

The SA Music Awards on Saturday night were such a shambles that some of the judges could not be seated for the ceremony.

Ukhozi FM’s Phumlane Mbatha, better known by his stage name, DJ Sgqemeza, was part of the huge judging panel, which included his Ukhozi FM colleague Zandile Tembe and journalist and socialite Lesley Mofokeng.

They ended up watching the show on television after being given “the run-around” by the organisers.

The awards evening, moved from Sun City to Montecasino, north of Johannesburg, this year to make it more accessible to fans, was a disaster, with award winners reportedly taking up to three minutes to reach the stage.

At Socialyz we believe local is lekker.  We are big supporters of the talent South Africa has to offer the world. You should know by now that we follow The Parlotones and Bittereinder. But, we also like Prime Circle. Infact, we love them. We love watching the rise and rise of  the talent we have here in South Africa.

Prime Circle are currently touring in America, but don’t you worry. They’ll be back soon.

So I’m always first to hear about their new albums or their concerts or special features and I am always the first to buy their wine when Woolworths stocks up.  This time round they have something extra special for you all.

I wrote an article this week on their new album, Eavesdropping on the songs of whales,(their fist acoustic album)  and I mentioned a new art collection. A while back I also wrote on their 3D extravaganza coming up and now you have a chance to win tickets.  I’ll get to the point shall I?

The Parlotones have finished recording their first studio acoustic album.  The album features brand new acoustic versions of  “Giant Mistake”, “Life Design” and “Should we fight back?”, as well as a few new songs “Tiny”, “Long Way Home” and “Inside”.

“Fans will be treated to a striking medley of Rock. Paper. Scissors, Pretend, Radiocontroledrobot and Overexposed that will bring out the soul of any music lover” said a spokes person for The Parlotones

Eavesdropping on the songs of whales is a stripped down interpretation of the band’s music where the absence of electrical amplification will leave you breathless.”

The album artwork has been designed by drummer Neil Pauw and is an adaptation of one of his paintings.
