Well it seems that not too many days can pass in South Africa without some cruel dimwit making up for his own cowardice by taking it out on an animal.

As evidenced in Benoni, where a man decided that his neighbours Rottweiler should actually have a short tail and so went next door and cut it off, before throwing it away and returning to his braai to boast about his idiocy.

There’s a saying that you can tell a lot about a countries citizens by they way they treat their animals. If this is true, then perhaps we need to start considering putting some of our citizens down!

Andre the property broker is going to LOVE this!

I found this on one of the other cape town based blogs and they were right.. this is the cutest cat ever. Once I saw this I just knew that i HAD to show Andre, he loves this kind of shit. How cool is this cat?

A Cape cockroach, that can jump, has been named as one of the world’s new top ten species.

The “leaproach”, which can grow up to one centimetre in length, was discovered in the Table Mountain National Park by scientists from the University of Cape Town, Beeld newspaper reported on Thursday.

“Its jump is powerful… it has very strong back legs,” said scientist Mike Picker of the zoology department.

It has been named Saltoblattella montistabularis. The “Montis Tabularis” refers to Table Mountain.

The cockroach has been named in the International Institute for Species Exploration’s top ten new species for 2011.

I was at a wee piss up at Mahpicki the Side-Kicky’s house this weekend and we had a very interesting conversation with some of her other girl friends. Why do Men Love bitches? I did a bit of snooping this morning and I’m pretty sure this book is right up there with A Billion Wicked Thoughts.

When I told Joe social about the book he rolled his eyes,  so let me just be clear; this book does not bad mouth your man. This book is simply a tool to help you , as a woman,  to hold your own in a relationship. Independence is key. Basically it helps you to go from doormat to dreamgirl. ( Just like it says on the cover) Yes please!

I read a few snippets out of the book and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.

This book is funny, very informative, totally irresistible and oh so saucy!

Do you suffer from Friggatriskaidekaphobia?

Or fear of Friday the 13th as it’s more commonly known. I’m starting to think Joe Social and Asstastic do. Maybe it’s because today is Friday the 13th? Or perhaps it’s because TheFrenchConnection’s alias is Jason? And he had his 13th birthday on Friday the 13th.

And he owns a hockey mask and a rusty machete.

Well, all but the last line is true, which had me doing a little research this morning as to where this superstition originated and why. You’ll perhaps be surprised to know that there’s not that much about Friday the 13th that is genuinely scary, although this may be less relevant if you’re a woman according to Simo Näyhä, M.D., Ph.D.

In a study presented to the American Psychiatric Association in 2002, it was concluded that the increase in road traffic deaths on Friday the 13th was incidental in men, however in women an estimated 38% of traffic deaths were directly atrributable to it being Friday the 13th.

Other than that, there’s alot of confusion as to where it orginated and why. According to Wikipedia at least, there doesn’t seem to be any recording of the date as unlucky before the 19th century.

There was one other interesting little piece of information that I dug up though. Infamous murderers Charles Manson, Harold Shipman, Frederick West, Saddam Hussein, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Theodore Bundy, and Jack the Ripper each have 13 letters in their names.

TheFrenchConnection hates most Fridays

Legendary British prog-rock band, Pink Floyd, have announced they are undertaking the massive task of reissuing all 14 of their studio albums, as well as previously unreleased material in digitally remastered format on an individual basis and as a box set on 26 September.

Drummer Nick Mason, said they have chosen to do it now as they are aware that the days of physical CD’s with intense artwork and intricate design are dissappearing fast in the face of downloadable content.

“I think it’s really important to try and have a last go at that, because if we do end up just downloading everything from now on it would be a shame if there wasn’t on record all that good artwork and the things that went with it”, said the 67 year old Mason.

Pink Floyd were at the forefront of progressive rock, before rifts in the band in the late 70′s led to the most familiar line-up splitting in the early 80′s. Their popularity has never waned though, as evidenced by their reception when they had a once off reunion for the Live8 concert in Hyde Park in 2005.

What is yours?

At Socialyz, we are not quite tree huggers but we tend to join the good fight when it comes to looking after our planet, and keeping our prints green. I guess everyone has the whole “someone else will do it” or ” billions of other people are doing it” attitudes. Well billions of other people have this attitude, I’m afraid.

We only have one planet and unless we colonise Mars in the next 10 years then we’ll end up killing our planet and killing ourselves. I came across this video and I agree with it. Mother Nature is one moody bitch and she can take you down if you piss her off.

Remember we wrote about Beyonce’s new single and how much it sucks? Well, Kelly Rowland also has a new single out and it also sucks.

King Mswati III, the  ruler of Swaziland has 13 wives and holds an annual dance where he can choose a new bride from  bare-breasted virgins. Now he is flying out to the UK for the Royal wedding.

Where does the money for the visit was come from “because Swaziland is one of the poorest countries in the world. There is 80% unemployment and this is caused by Mswati. It is an absolute dictatorship.” We want democracy in Swaziland; we don’t want monarchy” said Fungayi Mabhunu, coordinator of the Swaziland vigil.

So while the King attends his little party abroad, his people get pushed further into poverty  and those who speak out get arrested. A spokesman for Clarence House said: “The heads of state invited are members of royal families, in accordance with protocol for this kind of event.”

Yes , clearly your protocol should stand even if it means you might show that you support such a crap way of ruling a country, I mean, you wouldn’t want to offend anyone and ruin  your chances with someone who might be an ally at some point in time.

King Mswati of Swaziland is Africa’s last absolute monarch.  Police detained groups of people including journalists, union members and members of political parties, in the anti-monarchy protests held on the 12th April. These protests come exactly 38 years after King Sobhuza II, father of Mswati banned political parties and abandoned the country’s constitution.

It has been thirty years since the start of the shuttle program and the orbiters are retiring. NASA have announced that these oribiters will spend the rest of their days as museum pieces. I’ll say! If these orbiters could talk I’m sure they would have a lot to say, imagine the stories they would tell.

Discovery, the oldest out the fleet will be spending the rest of it’s days at the Udvar Hazy Centre in Virginia and Atlantis, set to be the final shuttle to fly in June, will make its permanent home at the Kennedy Space Centre, host of shuttle launches in the past three decades. Endeavour will come home to  the California Science Centre in Los Angeles. The Enterprise never flew in space and will be sent to New York where it will be on display for all to see on  a US aircraft carrier docked off Manhattan, This is the USS Intrepid Air and Space Museum. The Enterprise is currently on display at the Udvar Hazy Centre.

Nasa hosted a ceremony to honour Columbia, which was the first shuttle to fly in space on April 12 1981. The two-day flight was meant to test the shuttle’s ability to carry astronauts  into orbit and back. Columbia unfortunately exploded killing all 7 crew members.

Challenger,the original member of the shuttle fleet,  exploded 73 seconds after lift off in 1986. All seven astronauts died.

After the final missions by Endeavour in April and Atlantis in June the space program will be closed for good. Discovery ended its last journey to the International Space Station in March.

It’s all a bit sad really… What comes next you say? I’ll tell you about that later
