This past week Shamwari Game Reserve poachers did this to 'Tanner2'

More rhinos have been killed in South Africa in the past 10 months than were killed in all of 2010. Statistics show that 341 animals have been poached so far in 2011, compared to a record total of 333 last year.

As you might ,or might not, know my day job is Marketing Manager for a Property Company that is based in the Western Cape. I had an email from one of the big boys over at another property company and  I thought I’d let you know what he is up to.

Theodore Yach made his first crossing (swimming) between Robben Island and Blouberg in 1981. On Sunday December 4th 2011 to celebrate the 30th anniversary, Theodore will be tackling his 63rd crossing . In conjunction with Aquila Private Game Reserve’s ‘Saving Private Rhino’ initiative, Theodore will be swimming to save Africa’s rhinos and he needs your help.

‘ Saving Private Rhino’, established after 2 rhino where brutally killed and dehorned at Aquila Private Game Reserve, was set up to ensure the future conservation of Africa’s rhino and wildlife heritage.

My reply went something like this:

Dear Plonker,

Thank you for your most entertaining letter which you stuck to the wall where I had my own notice to say “do not touch the bird or the eggs”, that certainly was very mature of you.

I must say I was very surprised when I received your letter because I was under the impression that you can’t read. Again, I asked for the bird and the eggs not to be disturbed but you felt it necessary to do the opposite.

The matter of the pot plant is a simple one really; it does not belong to me and has been here since I moved in. I just happened to water the plant seeing as no one else was doing it. I’m cool like that. I am not sure how a pot plant can cause a security risk, please clarify this statement. The attack of the terracotta pot!! Humans beware!! * Ominous music etc *

As for the “flying pests” you referred to, I must say living next to a nature reserve we will gets lots of these and there’s nothing you can do about it. Why don’t you buy me some drinks with all those thousand of rands? Oh wait that’s right…you prefer driving around in your mid life crisis sports car.
The pigeons happily perch on the wall above my balcony each day. I keep an eye on them and they keep an eye on me. If they nest in my fire place will you come “dispose “of the eggs then too?

To be quite honest I was surprised when the pigeon decided to nest in the pot near the entrance to my flat but it was all really exciting. For about two weeks I watched the eggs grow from one to two , just to have you “dispose” of them. Anti-climax.

Did I mention that I am completely disgusted by your actions? There were two living things which were about to hatch. You’re a sick fuck.

I am going to keep the pot because true to their form, pigeons are getting laid again.

For and on behalf of the pigeons – flock off!!

When the voting closed on Monday, Van Vuuren had secured 50.49% of the votes. Voting for the final was particularly heavy – a quarter or so of the eight million or so votes cast throughout the season were for last night’s showdown.

And even though he hardly sang the first half of his winning song and debut single, Hall of Mirrors, no one cared.

It looked like the majority of the Mosaiek Teatro in Fairland, northern Johannesburg, had got the man they wanted.

”I don’t feel like I’m even on this planet right now. I feel unbelievable. It’s really the greatest thing that’s ever happened in my life,” said Van Vuuren.

As you know, we have a mate called Andre, who is a property broker and he always sends us really cute pictures, but I’m afraid Andre’s contract is under review for reasons discussed privately at an associate property broker function last night. It was his birthday and what better day to tell him his contract won’t be renewed. Sorry Andre but I have found your replacement(s).

I was happily going about my business when a dork from yet another brokerage sent me this picture. This falls under the “down right nasty” and I thought I would share it with my regulars. These kiff looking okes are my new favourites.

From left to right we have; John, Craig, Justin, Brett, Dorkus Aurelius and tiny little small little Matt at the bottom.

They found themselves binge drinking at a potjie competition hosted by those that must not be named.  There isn’t enough beer in the world for these guys and socialyz are now taking donations, however big or small, to send over to the guys up in Joburg.( See, the grass is not greener on the other side, see picture for proof)

They have requested cases of beer, but because they aren’t too fussy they will accept cheap beer like Black Label and Hansa Pilsener. They have also requested new outfits as theirs scare the boys  away and they “just cannot deal with the rejection much longer”. They also requested self tan lotion from the Carribean Tan Range, because no amount of sun glasses on this planet can keep away the glare.

So what’s this about? It’s a tournament that pits the best Old Boys from various schools against each other for bragging rights to show which school boasts the best old boys team.

The inaugaural event was held last year and was fittingly won by the hosts Milnerton High School Old Boys, commonly known as the MOB. The event takes place from the 30th of September 2011 to the 1st of October 2011.

Driving guitars, heart-pounding drums and growling lyrics tempered with some amazing melodies and a massive dose of stage presence make them one of the bands that appear on my “must see live” list before I (or any of them) are too old or too dead to do so.

Another thing I enjoy about them is their ability to take the complete mickey out of themselves in some of their music videos. Take “Low” where Jack Black and Dave Grohl get up to some night time shenanigans in a motel. Or “Learning to Fly” which features both of Tenacious D’s members accidentally spiking the coffee on board an airplane being flown by the Foo’s.

And their latest video for the track “Walk” off the Wasting Light album (an excellent listen). This one is a take on the great Michael Douglas movie, “Falling Down” and is definitely worth a watch.

Like take naked pictures of yourself on your Iphone. Now we all know that those pictures are somehow going to find their way on to the world wide watchdog.

Which is why Blake Lively, best known for her role in Gossip Girls, is a very silly lady, person. Her publicist is of course claiming that pics are fake. Maybe they are, but given the desparate attempts of some “celebs” to keep themselves in the public eye these days, it’s becoming more and more difficult to believe they’re all faked.
